This Privacy Policy explains what information pilcrownote (the "Service") collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. We designed pilcrownote to be a calm, private place to write, and we collect only what we need to provide the Service.
1. Information we collect
- Account information. When you sign up, we collect your email address and, if you use a third-party sign-in such as Google, basic profile details provided by that service.
- Your notes. The content you write is stored so it can be synced across your devices.
- Voice input. If you use dictation, your audio is sent to our speech-to-text provider to produce a transcript.
- Technical data. We collect limited technical information such as basic usage analytics to keep the Service reliable.
2. How we use information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, sync, and back up your notes.
- Authenticate you and secure your account.
- Transcribe your speech when you choose to dictate.
- Maintain, improve, and troubleshoot the Service.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use the content of your notes for advertising.
3. Storage and security
Your notes and account data are stored with our infrastructure and database providers. Access to your notes is protected so that only you can read and edit them. We apply reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data, though no method of transmission or storage is ever completely secure.
4. Voice dictation
Audio captured during dictation is transmitted to our speech-to-text provider only to generate your transcript. Recordings are not used to train models and are not retained beyond what is needed to return your text.
5. Spelling auto-correction
Optional spelling auto-correction runs entirely on your device. It uses a built-in dictionary and a curated list of common misspellings that are downloaded to your browser, and it checks your words locally. The text of your notes is never sent to us or any third party for spelling correction, and no data about what you write or which words are corrected is collected or transmitted. You can turn this feature off at any time.
6. Data retention
We keep your account and note data for as long as your account is active. When you delete a note, it is removed from your active workspace. When you delete your account, we remove your associated data, subject to any limited retention required by law or for legitimate operational needs.
7. Your choices
- You can edit or delete your notes at any time.
- You can delete your account to remove your data.
- You can choose not to use optional features such as voice dictation and spelling auto-correction.
8. Third-party services
The Service relies on trusted third parties for authentication, database storage, hosting, and speech-to-text. These providers process data only as needed to support the Service and under their own privacy commitments.
9. Children's privacy
pilcrownote is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Significant changes will be communicated through the Service where appropriate.
